OUR PROCESS Our Publishing Process

Our publishing process is a rigorous one designed to ensure that your book comes out with the highest level of quality in both content and packaging. Our able editors, proofreaders, and designers work thoroughly on your book to give it a near-perfect finish. The process is divided into two main stages; pre-press work and press work.

Pre-Press Work

Pre-press work refers to all the various processes your book goes through before we reach the printing stage. This comprises cover design, editing, proofreading, layout design and ISBN acquisition. Some of these stages happen concurrently.

Our editing process is rigorous and examines the strength of your work and its capacity to add value to the reader. It helps the author improve the message (ideas, information, and insight), and checks the arguments raised in the book and ensures that they are sound and well-explained. It also interrogates the facts presented in the book, namely historical information, statistics, dates, quotations, etc., and helps the author improve the coherence of the work and the clarity of the language used.

Whilst editing involves major changes to content, structure and language, proofreading focuses only on minor errors and inconsistencies. Proofreading involves carefully checking for errors in the book. We correct minor grammatical errors, spelling and punctuation mistakes, typos, formatting issues, and inconsistencies. After the first round of proofreading, the book moves to the layout design stage.

The layout design refers to the design of the interior of your book. We use reader-friendly fonts and formatting whilst adopting best practices to create a great layout. After the layout design, we send the book over to you for your perusal and approval.

Design for your book cover may begin concurrently with the editing stage if we believe your title is effective and can sell your book well. We rely on our professional experience as publishers to give clients advice on the effectiveness or appropriateness of their book titles. A book is a product and it needs a good name to appeal to its target audience. We provide at least 2 to 3 sample cover designs for your perusal and we work with your feedback till we arrive at a design that will sell the book effectively.

INTERNATIONAL STANDARD BOOK NUMBER (ISBN) An ISBN is  a unique identifier for books and is used by publishers, booksellers, libraries, internet retailers and other supply chain participants for ordering, listing, sales records and stock control purposes. The ISBN identifies the registrant, as well as the specific title, edition and format in which the publication may be produced. It is recognized in more than 160 countries throughout the world. By obtaining an ISBN you will be able to take the necessary steps to ensure that your book is widely known and to maximize its sales potential. If you are a publisher, author or bookseller it is in your interest to use ISBN as it is likely to help you to sell books. Here at Buabeng Books, we support our authors with the acquisition of ISBN. You can rely on us to do this for you smoothly.

Press Work

The press work consists of the printing process. We first print a dummy for you to see what the final work will look like. After dummy printing, minor changes in formatting, colours, and images may be done. When this is finalized, the book is mass-produced and delivered to you.
